A class-action lawsuit claims these refrigerators fail after only a few years:
The class-action lawsuit filed against LG claims that some of the company’s fridges suffer from a defect that causes the appliances to fail within just a few years. (Compressor Failure) The company is accused of misleading consumers about the appliances, leading to a considerable amount of time and money spent repairing or replacing them.
LG's Linear compressors simply have a high failure rate when compared to your standard on/off compressors. Although not as energy efficient but considering (Energy Star Rating < Reliability) And replacing it with another Linear compressor would put you in the same situation all over again. We've modified a few of these units to use a standard on/off compressor with great success...

Sharing the appliance's signal (12V DC) to the condenser fan motor, we tied in a replaceable 12v relay to run (120V AC) hot common. The signal from the main board (Con7 Pin4,6) to the condenser fan motor is the official call for cold from the appliance. With the relay's contacts closed, the common (hot) is sent through the normally open (NO) of the relay which then operates an Embraco Fixed Speed On/Off compressor. Testing was done to ensure accurate temperatures. The test unit was loaded with product and product temperatures were monitored around the clock.
